Tras siete meses de labores  la Brigada Cultural Para Leer en Libertad AC, colaborando con diversas  instituciones del gobierno de la ciudad de México, el PRD del DF, organizaciones  sociales y sindicatos, hemos organizado más de 200 acciones de promoción de la  lectura, que incluyen un gran Remate de Libros, conferencias en comedores  populares, un curso llamado “Historia de México para ciudadanos en rebeldía”, 25  ferias (tianguis) a lo largo y ancho de la ciudad de México, y hemos editado 11  libros que se regalaron en estas acciones.
 También hemos observado la  manera como los programas de Promoción a la Lectura que muchos de nosotros  promovimos dentro de la Secretaría de Cultura del Distrito Federal han  desaparecido o han sido reducidos a un mínimo conducidos  burocráticamente.
 También creemos que la  próxima feria del libro en el Zócalo no garantizará las necesidades de una  ciudad como la nuestra que ha incrementado en los últimos años sus intereses  culturales y su voluntad de leer.
 Por lo tanto la Brigada  Cultural Para Leer en Libertad ha decidido organizar la FERIA ALTERNATIVA DEL LIBRO de la Ciudad de México en la ALAMEDA  CENTRAL, del 6 al 10 de octubre.
 Hasta ahora se ha confirmado  la participación de más de 200 sellos editoriales, librerías y  distribuidoras.
 
 
 
 
 Intentamos que no sólo se  privilegie la buena literatura, el ensayo social, el libro informativo contra la  literatura chatarra, sino que además haya grandes ofertas. Pensamos que el  precio del libro en estos momentos en México es un gran obstáculo para la amplia  circulación y hemos invitado a los participantes a que ofrezcan grandes saldos y  ofertas.
 A lo largo del evento se  regalarán libros editados por la Brigada, uno de los cuales será la Antología  “De los cuates pa’la raza”, en la que intervienen aportando de manera  gratuita sus derechos de autor, 37 escritores.
 No sólo nos preocupa la  oferta de libros, sino las actividades paralelas (presentaciones, debates, mesas  redondas, lecturas) y para eso hemos convocado a un nutrido grupo de autores.  Entre los ya confirmados se encuentran: José Agustín, Gerardo de la Torre,  Óscar de la Borbolla, Beatriz Escalante, Guadalupe Loaeza, Irving Roffe, Eduardo  Monteverde, José Luis Zárate, Bef, Eduardo Antonio Parra, Claudia Guillén,  Eugenio Aguirre, Rius, El Fisgón, Mónica Lavín, Arturo Trejo, Jorge Belarmino  Fernández, Jenaro Villamil, Francisco Pérez Arce, Pedro Salmerón, Francisco  Pineda, Chuy Vargas, Fritz Glockner, Laura Esquivel, Agustín Sánchez, Armando  Vega Gil, Jorge Meléndez, Humberto Musacchio, Mariluz Suárez, Víctor Roura,  David Martín del Campo, Felipe Galván, Héctor de Mauleón, Ana María Jaramillo,  Jorge Moch, Víctor Luis González, Jesús Ramírez, Sabina Berman, Laura Restrepo y  Paco Ignacio Taibo II.
 Habrá lecturas de poesía de  Thelma Nava, Enrique González Rojo, Marco Antonio Campos, David Huerta,  Eduardo Langagne, Benito Taibo, Beatriz Novaro, Hugo Gutiérrez Vega, Julieta  Gamboa.
 Andrés Manuel López  Obrador presentará su reciente libro. También se presentará la novela  póstuma de Carlos Montemayor “Las mujeres del alba”. Tendremos una mesa  redonda sobre “Los gastos del bicentenario” en la que participarán Luis  Hernández y Carmen García Bermejo, otra sobre el primer año de lucha  del SME (en la que intervendrán su secretario general y el secretario del  interior del sindicato), y una dedicada al “País del narco”, en la que  participarán Víctor Ronquillo y Alejandro Páez.
 Habrá además intervenciones  musicales de Gabino Palomares, La Resistencia, Los Nakos, Misael, Calaca’s  Jazz Band, Arraigo Domiciliario y otros grupos.
 Tendremos tres tertulias. La  primera se celebrará a lo largo de tres días y se titula “El estado de la  nación” en la que intervendrán Armando Bartra, Carlos Payán, Javier González  Garza, Fabricio Mejía Madrid, Héctor Díaz Polanco, Manuel Oropeza, Sanjuana  Martínez, Agustín Torres, Ricardo Ruiz, Diego Valadés, Jorge Zepeda Paterson y  Martí Batres.
Una segunda (a realizarse por dos días) se titula “De  los padres de la patria”, y revisará las figuras de los insurgentes, con la  participación de Patricia Galeana, Raquel Huerta Nava, El Fisgón, Leo Eduardo  Mendoza y Francisco González.
Y una tercera (también de dos días de duración),  sobre la “Política Cultural en el DF” en la que intervendrán José Alfonso  Suárez del Real, Paloma Saiz, Felipe Garrido, Benjamín González, Argel  Gómez.
 Habrá talleres de cómic,  infantiles, de creación literaria y de periodismo ciudadano. Tendremos el  estreno mundial del documental “Ernesto Guevara, también conocido como el Che”  de Carlos Mendoza.

- The Student Research Symposium is a two-day  event to recognize the outstanding scholarly accomplishments of SDSU students.  The SRS provides a public forum where SDSU students will present their research,  scholarship, or creative activities.

- Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) at  Florida International University is currently accepting applications for its  13th Annual Haitian Summer Institute in Miami, Florida. The Institute features  intensive language training in Haitian Creole at both the Beginning/Intermediate  and Intermediate/Advanced levels, as well as a Haitian Studies Seminar Series  and a FLAC Lecture Series.

- Mixteco Cultural Exchange Program: In San  Diego Teach English or Spanish to Indigenous Mixteco Adults
- Provide tutoring and educational activities to  Mixteco youths
 
- This is a great opportunity to learn about the  Mixteco culture, practice your Spanish, and gain practical experience in  language instruction.
 
- Requirements: Must be available to teach on  Tuesday and/or Thursday evenings in Linda Vista from 5:30-8:30 and help with  cultural workshops on two Saturdays over the course of the semester. Knowledge  of some Spanish is preferred, but not required.
 
- Unaccompanied Minors Shelter Program: In El  Cajon and Lemon Grove
- Teach life skills and provide educational and  recreational activities to refugee minors while they await reunification with  their families in the U.S or abroad.
