Ambassador Jos\u00e9 Go\u00f1i became Chile\u2019s Ambassador to the United States in April, 2009. Prior to his appointment, he served as Chile\u2019s Minister of Defense (2007-2009), and was Ambassador of Chile to Mexico (2006-2007), Italy (2000-2004) and Sweden (1997-2000). Mr. Go\u00f1i was the Chilean representative at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and at the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). He was also Director for Europe of the General Directorate for International Economic Affairs (DIRECON); head of the team assigned to negotiate the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union (1995-1996); and director of the Stockholm branch of the Chilean Promotion Office (PROCHILE) for Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland.<\/p>\n
Mr. Go\u00f1i has published two books: Olof Palme and Latin America, Editorial Azul, Montevideo (1986), and Desarrollo con Equidad, Editorial Nueva Sociedad, Caracas (1988). He is currently writing a novel and a selection of short stories.<\/p>\n
