A Discussion with Local Activist Fernando Suarez Del Solar Follows the Film<\/p>\n
SAN DIEGO \u2013 The San Diego Public Library will host a screening of A Senseless Death.\u00a0 This new film by Raymonde Provencher tells the little known story of \u00abgreen card soldiers\u00bb\u2014young, non-citizen soldiers and Marines struggling to achieve, the so-called, \u201cAmerican Dream\u201d\u2014who were among the first casualties of the U.S. invasion of Iraq.\u00a0 www.macumbainternational.com\/2_14.php<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The screening will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8 in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Central Library, located at 820 E Street in downtown San Diego.\u00a0 This free event is open to the public.<\/p>\n \\Among the first fallen were two young Latin Americans–Jos\u00e9 Antonio Gutierrez from Guatemala and Jes\u00fas Suarez del Solar, who was born in Mexico and raised near San Diego.\u00a0 Both would lose their lives in an unpopular war.\u00a0 Fernando Suarez Del Solar, Jes\u00fas\u2019 father, would become an outspoken critic of the war and a dedicated activist opposed to the militarization of Latino youth.<\/p>\n A discussion with Mr. Suarez will follow the screening of this moving documentary which combines the hot button issues of immigration and war in 21st century America.\u00a0<\/p>\n Learn about other events at the San Diego Public Library\u2019s Central Library and 35 branches, find links to numerous additional resources, or search for materials in the Library\u2019s catalog online at www.sandiegolibrary.org<\/a> The screening of A SENSELESS DEATH at the San Diego Public Library WHEN: Wednesday July 8 at 6.30 p.m. CONTACT.
