The U.S.-Mexico Security Buildup and its Consequences for the Migrant Population\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

From Border Patrol agents to local police to the National Guard, the Bush and Obama administrations have dramatically increased the security personnel, technology and operations along the U.S.-Mexico border. Meanwhile Mexico, with U.S. assistance, has increased its own security presence in the border zone in order to confront drug trafficking and organized crime.<\/p>\n

A panel of officials and experts from the United States and Mexico will discuss whether the increased security investment is working. They will focus on the buildup’s intended and unintended consequences — overall patterns, humanitarian and human rights concerns — for migrants seeking to enter the United States from Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n
