{"id":637,"date":"2009-05-18T14:43:28","date_gmt":"2009-05-18T21:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www2.colef.mx\/elmuro\/?p=637"},"modified":"2009-05-18T14:44:18","modified_gmt":"2009-05-18T21:44:18","slug":"summer-courses-in-sdsu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colef.mx\/elmuro\/summer-courses-in-sdsu\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer courses in SDSU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Consider taking this Latin American Studies course this Summer 2009.<br \/>\nNon-SDSU students may take this course through SDSU Extended Studies<\/p>\n<p><strong>LATAM 510-Latin America through Primary Sources<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nMeets: Monday through Thursday<br \/>\nfrom 12noon to 1:40pm<br \/>\nMay 28 to July 9, 2009<\/p>\n<p>Class Schedule: 00220<\/p>\n<p>Location: PSFA 113 at SDSU<\/p>\n<p>This course is intended for upper division and graduate students in the social sciences, fine arts, communication, and public health that have an interest in Latin America.<\/p>\n<p>The focus of the class will be on examining primary sources, broadly defined as articles of information produced during a specific time period that yield valuable insight into the way individuals and institutions<br \/>\ninteracted with one another in the past.\u00a0 Students will learn to analyze primary sources as the product of relationships of power between various social actors.\u00a0 Not limited to the written word, we will also examine less commonly taught sources such as paintings and architecture, maps, music, and photography.<\/p>\n<p>Temporally, the class will begin in sixteenth century and will move forward through independence and into the twentieth century.\u00a0 The course is designed to expose the student to a broad range of topics in the history of Latin America across space and time with a particular focus on the way race, class, and gender issues have shaped social and cultural relations.\u00a0 In addition, students will become familiar with conducting research at a major archive or museum and will be expected to participate in at least two field activities during the length of the course.<\/p>\n<p>Please contact the instructor, Alex Hidalgo, at <a href=\"mailto:ahidalgo@email.arizona.edu\">ahidalgo@email.arizona.edu<\/a> for further information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Latin American Heritage 101<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen:\u00a0 Summer 1<br \/>\nMay 27th through July 9<br \/>\nWhere:\u00a0 Hepner Hall<br \/>\nRoom 128<\/p>\n<p>Days and Times:\u00a0 Mon; Tues; Wed<br \/>\n5:00pm to 7:10pm<\/p>\n<p>Come and learn the history of Latin America through the lens of cinema coupled with interesting and important readings.<\/p>\n<p>More info: <a href=\"mailto:perez@mail.sdsu.edu\">perez@mail.sdsu.edu<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Consider taking this Latin American Studies course this Summer 2009.
