50th Anniversary Celebration of Cat\u00f3licos por La Raza’s historic protest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To mark the 50th anniversary of Cat\u00f3licos por La Raza\u2019s historic protest for church reform, a group of young people and elders from the Chicano Movement\u00a0celebrated the CPLR historic protest for church reform on December 24, 1969.

The CPLR\u00a0reunion took place on Saturday, January 11, 2020\u00a0at the legendary Church of the Epiphany in LA’s Lincoln Heights neighborhood,\u00a0organized by Prof. Armando Vazquez-Ramos and Lydia Lopez, and attended by many of the leaders, academics, students, and family members of the survivors.

CAMPAIGN FOR IMMIGRANTS’ MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\nThe CMSC has decided to initiate in 2020 the Campaign for Immigrants\u2019 Mental Health Services<\/strong><\/a>, based on our 5-year experience relying upon group therapy sessions for the participants in our California-Mexico Dreamers Study Abroad Program, and the 3 Advance Parole Campaign advocacy trips to Washington, DC in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this campaign will be to inform and educate the public regarding the psychological crisis affecting the immigrant population throughout the U.S., due to a pervasive state of fear generated by the Trump administration since coming into office in 2017, the targeted acts of violence as the August 3, 2019 El Paso, Texas mass shooting at a Walt Mart store, and the hate-crimes aimed against immigrants, Mexicans and Latinos.

Reclaiming Undocumented Narratives and Storytelling at Sundance Film Festival 2020<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CMSC is proud to share with you that our multimedia\u00a0director, Lidieth Arevalo, will be part of\u00a0\u00abUndocumented and Unerasable: Reclaiming Undocumented Narratives and Storytelling,\u00bb<\/strong>\u00a0a panel\u00a0hosted by\u00a0Firelight Media<\/a>\u00a0that will take place at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah this upcoming Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 from 10am-12pm.

Lidieth is one of eight members of a group of undocumented filmmakers and immigrant rights activists, known as the \u00abUndocumented Filmmakers Collective<\/strong><\/a>\u00ab, which will be attending this prestigious\u00a0festival.\u00a0 This is the first time that a collective\u00a0of undocumented filmmakers will participate and\u00a0amplify their voices in the festival’s history. The group of filmmakers and activists\u00a0hope to\u00a0start dialogues that will transform an exclusionary system that\u00a0for many years\u00a0has left out immigrant filmmakers from\u00a0grants, fellowships, funding, jobs, and many other opportunities for emerging undocu-filmmakers.\u00a0

Part of the collective’s efforts to address these issues include an\u00a0Open Letter<\/a>\u00a0sent to the\u00a0Producers of Netflix’s ‘Living Undocumented’\u00a0documentary series and the Broader Media Industry<\/strong>, published on Dec. 6, 2019.\u00a0Please share the\u00a0open letter<\/a>\u00a0with your networks!
