He writes for several publications including The San Diego Union Tribune and its Spanish-language weekly, Enlace, where he covers Latino Arts and Entertainment. His first young adult novel \u00abMica chueca\u00bb and his nonfiction collection \u00abCr\u00f3nicas ch\u00fantaras\u00bb explore the theme of Sinaloan culture.\u00bbMica chueca\u00bb is the story of undocumented immigrants from Sinaloa living in Huntington Park, in Los Angeles County. It tells the story of Ren\u00e9 Gast\u00e9lum, a high school student, who without \u00abpapers\u00bb is unable to attend college.
